removing load bearing wall-how to tie ceiling joists

If one is to remove a load bearing wall and replace it with a hidden beam in the ceiling that is perpendicular to the ceiling joists, what is the best way of tying those joists together so that they resist the spreading force of the roof above?

To further clarify, the joists will be cut so a beam can be dropped in and be flush with the ceiling. The joists will then be hung from the beam with hangers. the joists form the collar ties (so to speak) of the roof structure. Is a strap sufficient, or something more elaborate?

Thanks

Straps are usually sufficient, but detail to assure that the thrust is resisted during beam installation. Can the roof diaphragm provide temporary stability?

Yes, the strap looks like the most viable solution, but consider a couple of things:

There is a minor potential of slippage of the nails against the holes in the strap. The issue I am addressing here is only that of astetics: a crack would occur in a alongside the new beam because of this slippage (it does not take much for this crack to occur).

Perhaps this can be corrected by using pairs of PHD2s with threaded couplers attached to doubled ceiling joists at, say, 32 inches on center?
