During cleaning process of our caustic plant, we get 20-30% caustic solution. The colour of this caustic is yellowish. The reason for yellowish colour is the Iron metal pickup from the equipment.

We wanted to know if the iron can be removed/precipitated by adding any chemical.

Thanks

It may be possible to clean up the caustic by simple filtration through a suitable filter or a charcoal filter.
The next treatment level, if mechanical filtration alone is insufficient, would be to disperse air into the caustic after warming it. Then the product is filtered to remove precipitated hydrous Fe(III) compounds.

can't you convert it into a colorless Fe complex compound?
I don't remember if EDTA would work at this pH ?

How much material are you thinking about treating?

Is this a batch process and do you have tank for a reaction?
