Refernces_book recommendation 2

Hi,
I am looking for books/references for learning about HVAC controls. I do have basic undestanding of HVAC systems but not design. Also looking for references on HVAC system design. any help will be appreciated..

All ASHRAE handbooks are good sources and a good starting point. SMACNA has great information on duct design and systems.

Popular text books I have heard are ones written by Clifford or McQuiston-Parker (I have older versions of both).

The major equipment manufacturers have great technical sites loaded with great information. Try Trane, McQuay, Greenheck or York for starters. Carrier also has some outstanding manuals. For hydronic system design ITT Bell & Gossett's engineering manual is outstanding. Covers everything from variable speed pumping to primary-secondary systems to heat exchangers.

There was an earlier thread regarding controls and I believe it reference the control manufacturers literature. Look at Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Alerton, Andover or similar sites for training material and/or white papers.

There is a ton of information available and a lot of it is free. Just need to find out what works for you.

I took Carrier's TDP, technical development program, which was a class held in the afternoons one day a week for ten weeks. As part of the class we received two big 3" binders full of books covering everything from psychrometrics to chillers to test and balance. The class cost $500 but the reference material alone that they provide is worth that much.

Marley had a great book: "Cooling Tower Fundamentals". Don't know if they still print it, as they are now part of SPX.

The suggestion about Marley reminded me that I inherited a some of their material along with some from ITT Bell & Gossett, which would be another one to check.

This is all yo should need to start. you will need to get some more industry-specific books, but these are the basics. some are free sources, some are books you need to buy, but way worth it.
