Referencing a non-driving dimension?

How do I reference a non-driving dimension? I have a line segment whose length I want to reference in the formula for another dimension. But if I use Smart Dimension to create a reference for it, its length gets fixed, which is not what I want. It's length should depend on other constraints in the sketch (which it does when I don't dimension it). Any work around?

Pat,

A 'driven' dimension can't be used in a formula to drive other
dimensions only driving dimensions can be used. There is no
workaround other then to change the sketch so that the
dimension to be used is a 'driving' one or chnage the formula
so that the value can be calculated by useing other dimensions
