reference model not visible (shaded mode) in assembly

Hello.

When I create a manufacturing assembly to make a mold cavity I can see my reference model (molded part) in 'no hidden, hidden line, & wireframe' modes but it is not visible when I pick any shaded mode options. This is driving me nuts. I must be overlooking something; I even shutdown the program, re-boot the PC and start again but no luck.
