Reference for fastener problem 3

I need a reference that either gives me a quote that I can send to our customer regarding same material fasteners. For instance, they want to screw an aluminum vent tube into an aluminum housing. Two of the engineers here say they swear they have read it somewhere that this isn't a good idea but they have no reference to prove it. If anyone knows where to get this information please respond. Removability is a concern in this situation.
Thanks.

I did a quick search using Google ( with the keywords "aluminum" and "thread" and "galling" and got two very good links:

I imagine that a search of any authoritative reference on fasteners would include a discussion on this matter. Previous threads on Eng-Tips have discussed how/where to obtain references like Handbook of Bolts and Bolted Joints by Bickford and Nassar (published by Dekker) or various MIL specs like FED-STD-H28/2B.

WarnerG,
I would contact several of the fastener
manufacturers. Obviously, many people are
doing the same, and a method must be available
to either coat the threads or use some type
of loctite product to provide an anti galling
compound to these parts.
