Im very new to Solid Edge. I've picked it up rather quickly but there is something I cant seem to locate anywhere. That creating a reference axis. Say I want to create an axis at the intersection of 2 planes or I want to creat an axis through a cylinder….Is there no option for this or do I not know where to look…please point the way..THANKS! Im using V17

Hi,

The reference axis of cylinders are created automaticaly and can be shown in the assembly (during 'assemble' for example using the 'construction display' icon)

For the two planes, I would just start the modelling (solid and/or surfaces), then use the 'intersection curve' command between the 2 planes. If a segment is needed, create a skecth and 'include' the curve.

NB: try to approach your problem differently, there might be an easier way !

What do you need an axis for?

Other programs that require an axis, say Solidworks and Alibre for example, don't require an axis for SE because the axis is defined within the sketch - say for a revolve, or the edges of the planes act as an axis.

For assembly mating, selecting the cylinder for an axial align automatically constrains to the cylinder's axis.

Since you're new to SE, perhaps explaining your application will help us show you the modeling method best (I use that term lightly) suited to your desired goal.

I've grasped the simple fuctions such as revolves and im seeing where creating an axis is not needed. I guess its just what I'm used to. Im getting it down thanks for the advice. My first week ever in SE and I seem to have got a good hold on the software. Still much to learn. I'm at that point where I'm "making the best of it". But I'm sure I'll see all the good points sooner or late ;)

THX Again!
