Reduce reflection on water surface 1

Hello,

I am a novice at infrared imaging, and I'm imaging water surfaces with an IR camera. I'd like to reduce the amount of reflection from things such as overhead lights, sun, etc.... I have successfully reduced it by covering the whole system with a dark fabric, but I'd like to know if there is a better way.

The reflection seems to be just a (thermal) mirror image of what is above the water surface (including the camera itself).

Any ideas?

That's an inherent property of water. You simlpy need to take precautions against high emission objects in the test area.

Water is also increasingly reflective the farther you are from 0º angle of incidence (normal).

Thanks for the quick reply. That's what I figured the answer would be, unfortunately.
