I'm in the process of purchasing a spare rectifier transformer and would appreciate any input for my bid spec.

Any recomendations on winding design, ie sheet, disc, etc.

Could anyone supply an old spec which I could review.

The transformer will supply a cycloconverter at 1150V for a 9200kW motor. (Harmonics approx 25% Ithd, I've included the spectrum and load profile in spec already)

Any comments will be appreciated.

Buying an reliable rectifier transformer at a reasonable price is a quite difficult task as I know from personal experience.

- to my mind it is not good idea to specify a special type of winding or material because this will limit the number of quotes significantly and often a good design is possible with different approaches.

- to include the harmonic spectrum (and not just a derived value as the THD) is very important. As far as I remember this is recommended by the approbiate IEC-standard.

- ask the bidders to provide a reference list and search if they have experience with similar units and try to get information from the customers listed in the reference list
