Real time temperature controller

Hi all,

i need some roughly idea on how i can progress my work for the temperature controller using matlab. how can i interface my hardware to block toolbox in simulink? My hardware are fan, heater and temp sensor to detect the temperature. i need to build PID controller for this system. If, i using query instrument toolbox from simulink and i'm not sure where it gonna go. the input signal goes into the query instrument toolbox is from 0-255 in ascii character. i'm not not how to literate the ascii character and the transfer function. any help or link for useful information would be great. thanks
