I have been reading that reaches should be used for long pipe systems that are large enough to provide storage. The design would then be to model the reachas a pond with a culvert outlet. How does one model that?

Also, when it is said that reaches should be used for large/long pipe systems what is considered large pipe and what length. Please advise.

I've always just used a Pond w/ the stage:volume of the pipe for that, then just used the outlet as it is. I don't think I have ever yet used a Reach.

Reaches may be usefull for long channels with significant storage and routing effects - but ONLY for open channel flow. For a pipe with inlet or tailwater effects, use a (zero-storage) pond with a culvert outlet.
