Hi folks,
I am performing a random vibration analysis on a component using ansys workbench ver. 15.0.
After applying a PSD acceleration load along one axis and after computing the results, I can display as results an Equivalent Von Misses stress.
Here comes the question.
How to interpret that stress? Is it the 1,2 or 3 sigma value of the alternate stress acting on the structure due to the load? If it is the correct interpretation, is it the amplitude (sigma max - sigma min) or just the semi amplitude (hence I have to take into account twice the value)?
If I have to assess the fatigue life of the structure under test, could I think to a stress field where the mean value is computed from another calculation (for example, a static analysis) and the alternate stress is due to the random vibration?
Thanks in advance!
