I was sorting thur some old papers this morning and found something that I don't remember obtaining, or why. It is DuPont's 1984 publication "Engineering Properties of Neoprene Bridge Bearings". There are references to it on the the web, but the document does not seem to be available any more. Well, we have fixed that... it is now at the top of the "Miscellaneous" section of my website home page, link below.

Just wondering. Did you comfirm with Dupont that the 1984 information is still relavent or correct? Are the same type of pads still being manufactured?

PEinc - Rereading my most recent post make it sound like I "operate" an irresponsible website, so let me go over the steps that I take in general and on this document in particular (before uploading it to the web)

1. I looked to see if this document is copyrighted. It is not.

2. I looked to see what statement about it's use DuPont may have made. There is a "Special Note" at the lower right of page # 13, you can read it, but it essentially says that "The information set forth is furnished free of charge..." then goes on to other disclaimers.

3. I Googled on the title of the document and got a few hits that reference it.

4. I went to DuPont's website,

, and searched their site for the title. Got none. Then searched their site for "neoprene" and got over 600 hits, but none that I checked seemed relevant. Then searched their site for "bridge bearings",and got no hits. Searches on "bridge" and "bearing" gave hits, but nothing appropriate.

5. At that point I decided that it was a good candidate for my website and, after scanning and creating .pdf file, uploaded it with the name "Engineering Properties of Neoprene Bridge Bearings - 1984"

I have no interest in providing current information, except for a few public domain documents that are only offered in obscure or piecemeal ways. As you know, Manufacturer & Vendors do a good job of making available current info. The problem that I always encountered was getting out of date info on EXISTING products that I had to "deal" with.

Now for the general comments:

Why do this? A public service and a hobby. Notice that there is no advertising on my website - NONE. I pay the cost (not that expensive, about $120 for a two year web hosting contract).

I have an email address posted on the home page that I check twice a week, or so. So far (17 months) I have not been asked to remove anything - always a first time though . If asked by a responsible party, I will remove anything on the first request.

What I have received occasional offers to post material that is currently available (for a fee) elsewhere. I turn those offers down.

My intent is to offer what may be useful (old) engineering information is a format similar to the way that these (and other) websites offer old software:

I would never think that you operate an irresponsible web site. Your site is great and has much useful info. I do find your explanation of your procedure interesting. Thank you.

SRE – I also found your explanation above interesting. It may be helpful to the users of your site to post something similar to your explanation above somewhere on your site. This may clarify the intent of the webpage others.

Awesome...I like that it’s bold and right at the top of the page.

One comment though and it’s really picky: I think the box the statement would look better centered on the webpage since the text above and below it is also centered. That’s just my opinion. Otherwise I think it looks and reads good.
