Well…, that is what those pressed-in pins were doing ‘breaking off,’ what else would you call it, despite all our fancy names and terminology which we use today. In 1948 fracture mechanics mostly had to do with broken arms and legs, and fatigue meant you had had a long day and were tiered, and I was getting ready to start first grade. We’ve come a long way haven’t we, and we are still not so darn sure we really know and understand. 😊
