Question about Tractor Traliors

I have often wondered about the small circular objects on the sides of some tractor trailers. There are usually two rows and one column per 3ft panel. They stuck out about 2 inches from the trailor surface. Do the serve an aerodynamic purpose?

I think you are seeing the backside of a tie-down pocket. The walls of most trailers are pretty thin so they can maximize the inside space. Some trailers have tie-downs inserted flush with the inside wall. Trust me you don't want any protrusions into the cargo space. These are used to secure the loads and keep them from shifting.
