How do you treat oily smoke coming out of a quench tank? Hot metallic parts are immersed in oil and vapors are emanating of the tanks. Any experience or reference?

Oily smoke typically consist of very fine droplets. Cartridge filters are used when the gas flow is small and the pressure is high. For larger gas flows at lower pressures, either a fine mist spray scrubber or a wet electrostatic precipitator is likely more feasible.

PETERAB,

Thanks for the tips...Now do you have any idea on how to quantify the emissions? I know the quantity of mineral oil consumed but is it possible to evaluate the PM concentration? Is there any model available... I could not find anything in the AP-42 or any other references.

I am running up against the same question. Have you had any success in getting the answer you sought?
