We have a WPHY-70 fitting that gets a longitudinal seam weld. We typically use ASME B31 requirements to determine if we need to PWHT (1150F) or not. I have weld procedures qualified with and without PWHT that both meet the 70 yield.
I am now hearing that a customer will not accept as-welded on a Q&T fitting and that it doesn't meet MSS SP-75 requirements. Reading through part 9 "all fittings shall be furnished in the heat treated condition" is not making me feel good about this. stress relief is only allowed for guide bar welds. We Q&T (or normalize, depends on grade) after forming the fitting but before welding. The 2008 version had a line about fabrication welds being allowed to stress relieve only, but that was removed for 2014 edition.
Am I required to have the weld in a matching heat treat condition as the rest of the fitting? Q&T on the weld metal sounds like setting up for headaches.
