This is somewhat of a debate between our home office and fabrication facilities at the moment in regards to the correct interpretation. I can't find much of the Bonney Forge documentation that has been referenced in older threads, most of which refer to B31.3 criteria.

In B31.1, how is the correct thickness governing PWHT determined? Is it factored in as a branch connection in accordance with 132.4.2? Would the material thickness in 132.4.1 refer to a particular dimension of the weldolet, or is it in reference to the size of the branch pipe? If a weldolet groove is completely filled as opposed to being sized in accordance to the branch it's connecting, is it based along the lines of 127.4.8(D) figure A?

Thank you in advance.

Mr 168;
Yes. The nominal thickness for PWHT is based on joint design as stated in paragraph 134.4.2. There is mention of a specific reference for branch welds, where the definition listed in E (1) for weld thickness would apply for detail (a) in Figure 127.4.8.(d).

Thank you for the verification.
