Does anyone know what process is used to weld the round caps to the rod? Or are they even welded at all?

Any advice is appreciated.

what do you mean by "round caps"? piston?!
You cann't assemble push rod within piston cap by using welding!

Okay then, maybe I should ask,

"How is a pushrod manufactured?"

Some aluminium push-rods have press fit steel ends.

I'm taking a guess here but I'll bet they are friction welded.

Friction welding is used commonly to manufacture components like pushrods and poppet valves for high volume automotive applications. Lower volume requirements for racing, etc. are machined directly from bar.
