I'm trying to work out the theoretical power calculations for a pugmill mixer as used in asphalt or continuous base concrete type applications. Does anyone know how to calculate the torque and shaft Kw required by a mixer with x arms and paddles of a certain area for a required output capacity? Should you calculate the torque and thereby the shaft power by using the total paddle area, or by using the paddle area plus the paddle arm length for the total area to the paddle tip. Obviously the paddle angle will have an effect on the torque/power and mixing times. Anyone know all these details?
