Can anyone share with me their success/horror stories on doing their own PTFE coatings? I'm trying to do in-house PTFE coatings on beryllium copper bushings for journal bearings. Any recommended suppliers for buying the spray? Can we get .001 +/- .0002 thick by doing it at our plant?

Hi, Shawn. Have you considered a co-deposited plating of nickel-PTFE? An advantage is the lower processing temperature. (Spray-on, cured PTFE coatings, with binder, pigment, etc., require heating typically up to 750F, which means poor adhesion on copper.) Also, thicker coatings (0.001 inch) are not always ideal. Depending on your contacting load (static and dynamic pressure) and velocity, consider thinner films, and other lubricant options, organic and inorganic.
