Can anybody help me out to understand the difference between a Thermal
relief Valve(TSV) and a pressure safety valve(PSV), Esp. How they decide
upon the set pressure and basis of selection of the above two types of
Valves i.e for which applicaitons these valves are used.

Is the sizing procedure for these tsv and psv that is defined by api 520 is same with relief valves

Tolga11,

A TSV (thermal relief) is used primarily in liquid situations where the temperature is highly variable. The TSV allows for some some volumetric expansion by bleeding off a little liquid if the vessel/pipe becomes too hot.

A PSV is usually a gas device.
