Hello, i have a question:

If a material PSL1 is meeting the requirements of PSL2, is it acceptable to use it as PSL2 ?

i repeat a question that was not nobody answered ( 2 or 3 years before)

Thank for help me.

In theory yes, but PSL2 covers many things other than one or two "requirements" (which ones were you thinking of?) including material testing and composition, manufacturing systems, heat treatment, testing, traceability, test records, etc etc.

Other than the fact that PSL2 pipe is "better" and has a much higher traceability and testing, there is no physical difference and no design impact. However for selling it as PSL2, I don't think that is a practical proposition - far too many additional things need to have been done and recorded to make it happen in reality.

Thanks LittleInch, where i´m working, a piece that had to be PSL2 came to Peru, where I live, no time to wait for a change, I thought of this possible solution, yet i don´t send the piece to the laboratory, only i think in this solution. (excume for my english), to evalute the piece , not bigger that a wheel private car.

As said it is not just testing, it a lot about the manufacturing process and testing during manufacture and you can't change that.

Nice try, but I wouldn't accept it if it was me.

Thanks,you was very friendly.

PSL-1 is a loose standard quality for line pipe, whereas PSL-2 contains additional testing requirement, stricter chemical physicals, along with different ceiling limits of mechanical properties, and requires Charpy impact testing conditions.

Additional testing requirements under PSL-2 include CVN testing, non-destructive inspection of seamless products, certification to SR15, and mandatory traceability throughout the entire production process. Most FERC, DOT, or FEMSA lines require PSL-2, meaning these types of requirements are a must when supplying pipe for pipelines that are regulated by any of these governing bodies.

PSL-1 pipe will not meet the requirements of PSL2.

Right that's it. When in doubt, or not use PLS2
