.prt files won't load NX8.5 / open in NX8.5 when multiple versions of NX are installed

Hello,

I'm having a problem with a few machines (Win 7) where I have multiple versions of NX installed, and I can't set the file association for .prt files to open in NX.

I first tried setting it to ugraf.exe in C:\Program Files\Siemens\NX 8.5\UGII, but then double-clicking a .prt file opened a new NX session, and didn't load the part, even if NX was already open.

Then I found thread561-360235 and changed association to ugs_router.exe in the same folder. But now, when I double-click a part file it returns the error attached.

I get the same error if I just double-click ug_router.exe in the same folder.

Can anyone advise how I can set the file association so that .prt files either open NX8.5, or load NX8.5 and open the file if it's not already loaded?

Lots of information on here but I'm still confused!

re-run the install. ( or if there is a repair option under add-remove software)

I am pretty sure this is a registry "error", and then I prefer the repair/ re-install before trying to do manual corrections.

Thanks Tomas, I was hoping it wouldn't be that as someone else does the installing.

Does order matter do you know (i.e. I need 8.5 to 10 installed, but want the files to open in 8.5 at the moment).

Or am I asking too much, and I'd better just working around it?

There is a file that the installer runs that sets the registry commands for opening a file. The last version of NX will be the version that is opened when you double-click on a .prt file.

If you need NX 8.5 to 10 installed, yet want to double-click and have it open in 8.5, then you need to install (or repair) NX 8.5 last.
I'm not sure the repair will rerun the registry setting file, but it is loacated in the bin folder of your install, I think.
