Profile, all over (3D) - question

Is the usage of All Over Profile in the attached drawing legal? The 2009 standard only has figure 8-8 devoted to All Over Profile. The wording in section 8.3.1.6 reads to me that the attached drawing is not in agreement with the standard. I am trying to use the all over profile tolerance for only the indentation in the disc and not for the entire part. Legit use of All Over or not?

It looks acceptable to me, because:

[li]The indentation itself can be broken into several smaller features, so identify every one of them separately would be difficult.[/li]
[li]You clearly indicate where "all over" ends, leaving no place for misinterpretation.[/li]

As usual, the committee left loose threads - they did not specify the means whereby 'otherwise specified' is specified. It's like having a drawing note that says plate entire part and then placing that as a note besides one dimension. Does that mean it is clear that the surfaces the dimension apply to are the only ones to be plated?

It's also a little rough on the inspector that not all surfaces of the notch are identified with basic dimensions, so it's a bit of a trick determining which areas are out of tolerance and which are OK because they are radii.

More and more often both part and gauge are produced from CAD data (Basic dimensions? What basic dimensions?)

When it comes to what committee forgot to define - I won't even come close to that.

I don't necessarily think it is incorrect to apply all over profile callout to specific portions of a part - indentation in this case. As a personal preference, I would most likely go with note ALL OVER INDENTATION ONLY (or similar) without using the all around symbol. An alernative could be a note like ALL SURFACES OF INDENTATION.

I do agree, however, with 3D Dave that all surfaces of the notch, including radii currently defined as MAX, should be defined with basic dimensions.
