Hi everybody

I am runnig with CATIA v5r15 and i have a problem. When i have to do a new part that is more or less like than an existing part i use "new from" command. If i am working in Assembly desing workbench...and launch "new from" command...a warning window appears and tell me that a have to close the part that i want to copy with "new from"....but the reality is that i have to close all the assembly to do a "new from".

Is there any posibility to do this without close all my Assembly?...

Thanks in advance

Is it easier to 'Save as' to create your new assembly or part?

Hi,

I think that using "New From" is the right thing to do in order to create an independent copy of a part or product. Unfortunately you have to close the the part/product before running the "New From" command.....

When working in an assembly, you can achieve the same thing by using Copy/Paste Special, Break Link. In other words, select the part you want to make a "new from" part. Right click and Copy. Select the Product. Right click and Paste Special. Select Break Link.

You will now have a new part in the tree that is titled "Copy of xxxxxx". You can now re-name it and go to Save Management, where you will see it listed as a New Document.

In this case, as in New From, the UUIDs will be reset.
