i have a hobart mega arc 300G, 1984, ford gas engine 2300, 4 cyl.
When I am welding with a 1/8 " rod, the machine will sometimes speed up and the heat will change like I am using a 1/4" rod. the only way i can get it to stop is to turn off the machine and let it cool down awhile. then when i start it back up sometimes its alright but sometimes its not. i have had the "dios" checked on it and it checked out ok , as did a load test and generator test. i have had new slip ring brushes put in an seated, and a 1" x 1" rectifier box. i have also replaced the timing belt and put a new govenor on it. can you give me any advice? thanks, john moore

John,

No Idea if your unit is air goverened, oil, or centrifical BUT, I've found on older tractors and Wisconsin motors, that the govenor is the culprit every time...
