Pressure Equivalent of Flange

What is meant by the "pressure equivalent" of a flange?

Depending on what context "pressure equivalent" is used it could mean several things.
My first though it would be the allowable pressure a certain class flange of a specific material would be.

Like a Class 300 flange for a group 1.1 material would be 740 psig at room temperature.

Can you comeback in how it's used.

The external loads applied on a flange (mechanical loads) can be estimated in form of an "equivalent pressure" which can/shall be added to the design pressure. This extended design pressure at design temperature may not exceed the pressure / temperature rating of that given flange.
