What is your preferred method for attaching a steel beam to an existing concrete wall or column? I've seen angles used a seats, end plates welded to the beam, and clip angles, with all of these configurations attached to the concrete with post-installed anchors of various descriptions. Is there a reason to use one type over another? Or do any of you have an particular preference for one style over another? Thanks in advance.

Depending on the connection of course, I tend to use four after-set bolts, expansion or chemical, bolted to a plate that has a single tab plate with horizontally elongated bolt holes so the beam can be set from one side of the connection and be as long as possible to minimize the eccentricity of the connection, and have a margin of error for fabricatioon and placement.

Thank you very much. I needed a reality check. I was sketching up something similar and for some reason it looked a bit goofy, and yet everything else I could find looked even goofier. And I couldn't find any code guidance on goofiness avoidance. :D

When you read the code, it immediately becomes clear that goofiness avoidance is not a high priority.
