Does anyone have any information on good online references, standards, or books that describe how to properly dimension/specify complex surfaces for manufacturing?

Tolerances on the surfaces are important but I can't figure a way to convey the appropriate information?

Is the solid model complete with multiple toleranced profiles sufficient?

sirmick,

Check out ASME Y14.5M-1994. It shows you how to apply dimensions and tolerances to curved surfaces. It IS the standard.

In SolidWorks, you would apply a bunch of points, make these coincident to the curved line, and apply dimensions to them. Rather than trying to apply tolerances to your dimensions, you would apply a profile tolerance to the surface.
