Pnuematic test header design and test

We are in the process of fabricating a test header that will be utilized in pnuematic testing here in Canada. Does the header need to be designed and stamped and approved by the provincial authority, and, what code or specification can be used to determine the testing required on the header itself, being that it will be outside of the exclusion zones. We are working to B31.3 and CSA Z276? All and any information is greatly appreciated.

Your question relates to the code difference between designing a "short thick piping system" or a "pressure vessel".

ASME VIII has some statements defining the limits of applicability for the vessel code. Minimum size and purpose of the device is discussed.

My experience has been that the jursdiction will believe whatever set of rules you insist upon.

I know that this doesn't help much......could your header possibly be called a receiver ?

 
Hmm, my view would be that it's a bit of pipe to transfer air into and out of whatever you are testing, and not meant for storage. So ASME B31.3 would seem to be the one. Design pressure will be the maximum test pressure required, so 1.5 times that for the hydrostatic test pressure of the test header.

Am not in Canada, so can't help there I'm afraid.
