pneumatic equipment interchangability

Hi

im new to this forum and also pretty new to pneumatics, thanks for any help you may provide.

My new position requires me to start streamlining our pneumatic equipment down to 1 supplier which will probably be SMC or FESTO. I'm not entirely sure how the different standards (ISO 1552 etc) work . could anyone explain or point me in the right direction ?
