I have a piston (about 5 cm diameter), manufactured from a copper alloy (most likely bronze) which has been worn down in service. I wish to build the outer diameter back up, to a tolerance of 0.015 mm.
So far, I have considered three options
1 - electroless plating
2 - electrolytic plating (chrome has been suggested)
3 - machine a new piston
The main querry I have is regarding the ideal material to plate copper. I realise this probably isn't done often, but this is for wall thickness purposes, rather than to obtain a beneficial surface finish. Presumably, the coating material should have similar properties to copper.
Any further information would be much appreciated.
