We are having a major problem with solid sulfur deposits on the vapor side of the surface condenser. Sulfur originates from bleach reaction by-products. Sulfur deposits force us to take the condenser apart for cleaning every other month.
As far as I understand, there are no chemical means to prevent deposition (vapor-solid phase change). Are there any working systems out there to clean the plates online? Deposits are dry and brittle. Can increase in vacuum help? Currently, vacuum is pulled through the condensate collecting tank, the condenser and evaporator to lower boiling point.
Most of the literature I've come accross thus far deals with tube and shell condensers. Any words of wisdom on dealing with plate and frame condensers? How would I go about troubleshooting for air-in leaks? I am very inexperienced in ("kettle"
evaporator performance.
