I have been tasked to analyse a plate that will be bolted to a bulkhead. The plate has 2 beams welded to it. My question is what failure modes do I need to look at. I have done bearing (tear out) of the fasteners but what are the other modes I need to look at?

The plate is 220 mm wide by 100 mm high and 15mm thick

Thanks in advance

oh, where to begin !?

1) what is the impact of this plate on the bulkhead (under the bulkhead's everyday loads) ? Is it a pressure bulkhead, or a cabin internal bulkhead ?

2) what's being mounted to the plate ? It's pretty heavy (15mm thk) … is it machined ? What's on the two beams you mention ?

3) What's the impact of welding ? Is the plate 6061T6 ? Why on earth weld ?? (quite rare in aircraft)

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

If you haven't already start by drawing it out. The first step is to understand the load paths. Determine your load cases and draw FBDs. That should be your starting point in asking for advice. Always helpful if you have drawn something out.
