Hi, a few years a go my father invented a very interesting children furniture. He made a prototype out of a fiberglass. We patented it in the US. Now I want to start producing it my self but I would like to change the material from fiberglass to plastic. I am a structural engineer. I would like to design this my self if I can or hire someone that can in Colorado. I want the material to look like this (hollow plastic with rib in the middle maybe?)

(THIS IS NOT THE PRODUCT)

Could someone guide me or point me to a company to design small plastic structure like the picture above? My product will probably only be 1 piece. I know the shape will probably be thicker than the fiberglass. I want to make sure the model when I purchase the mold is buildable.

COEngineer,

You may want to contact Industrial Design Haus, LLC.

Jeff Mowry (Theophilus) is active on these fora (particularly the Solidworks forum) and could do this type of work. He's actually looking to move to Colorado in the future.

I guess I am looking for someone that can design it so it will be strong, durable, and build-able. I would also want that person to draw it on solidworks. I guess I don't really know the steps I need to take. I just want to be able to have a mold and start mass producing it (well.. not that many because this will be a home business).

Looks like a prime candidate for blow-molding in polyethylene (or similar). I'm on the road now (from Westcliffe, CO back home) but would be happy to take a look or give some suggestions by next week as to which way to go. (Possibly structural foam?)

Thanks, dgowans for the kind suggestion.
