I'm using Pipeplus software to perform stress analysis on a high pressure (~91 bar) boiler feedwater pipe. I'm using ASME B31.1 code. The code/allowable stress ratio informed by Pipeplus results is well within the limits (~60% for sustain+pressure case, ~25% for thermal+sustain+pressure case).
Checking Pipeplus documentation, I found that for sustain+pressure case, the formula used to determine code stress is B31.1 104.8.1. Apparently Pipeplus doesn't check, for example, formula B31.1 104.1.2 (straight pipe under internal pressure), which, in this case, gives a stress higher than the allowable.
So my conclusion is that using only Pipeplus, one cannot be sure that the design is code-compliant (I mean in the stress calculations part of the code)
Is this correct? Am I missing something?
