I have two questions which turned up during pipeline and flow line construction in desert sand locations.
are there any code requirements (or firm guidelines) against fixing the pipe line to the anchor block flanges after three days of pouring the concrete anchor block? Normally one waits at least seven days. In this case the construction team requested to do it after three days due to time schedule pressure. In the end it was decided that if the three day crush test results were within the specified limits, then yes, put load on the anchor block flanges.
Second question: are there any code or firm guidelines which specify that the underlying sand has to be compacted before the flowline is installed? We often find that this is not done and our concern is that after construction in operation the sand might self-compact and cause the lines to sag, putting strain on the line. We often see this method of construction (not compacting the sand) also for in-plant (process) piping.
