Hello all,

I am working on a project that replaces a 2-inch NPS gate valve with a motor operated valve. The new valve and actuatuator has a weight of 100 lbs. The 2-inch piping is 90-10 copper - nickel with a min wall of 0.065. The system has a design pressure of 150 psig and temperature of 160F.

I am concerned that the extra weight might over stress the piping. Is there a method to evaluate or a hand calculation that can be used to determne the need and placement of a valve/piping support?

Thanks

let your piper do the calculations, but have him support the valve

Supporting an MOV off a small bore line is a hassle -especially if there's any thermal expansion to speak of, but it's well worth it.

If the line is as small as what you have indicated then it will become mandetory for supporting the valve actuator
