"all specimens shall exhibit a minimum absorbed energy
value of 27 J (20 ft-lbf) for Grade P386 (X386) and lower,
and a minimum of 54 J (40 ft-lbf) for grades higher than
P386 (X386). Weld metal shall meet an absorbed energy
value of 27 J (20 ft-lbf) minimum for all grades"

Dear All, The above paragraph is from ASME B16.49 for Induction Bends. I am guessing that P386 and X386 refer to API 5l X 56 pipe. However, I am not sure. Can someone point me to the source with the explanation? Thanks.

P386 and X386 refer to the bend grade not the pipe. Pipe grade will be L390 or X56. Looks like somebody had a go at being a bit international and using the yield strength in MPa but going a bit awry as P is generally pressure vessel plate and the 386 doesn't match the 390 being used by API. Table 1 shows you that it does indeed mean 56 ksi SMYS.
