Does standard pipe fittings come with additional length for machining / beveling allowances?
I just noticed that pipe fittings when ordered with 'plain end' requirements comes with an additional 2~3 mm straight face length.
Is this a requirement of ASME or any other manufacturing standard specification.

Well B 16.9 has a number of tables for dimensions of weld ends.

What do you mean exactly by "plain end"? If you mean literally square then vendors will allow for the machining of a weld end.

Betrween 5 mm and 22mm the suppliers allow for a 37 degree bevel but may be add on a mm or two to allow for the machining of the bevel if supplied as a square end.
