Hello,

I hope this is a quick question regarding pile design. I have calculated the ULS factored load acting on a pile. I have calculated the ultimate bearing capacity of the pile which exceeds the factored load. However, should I also apply a safety factor to the bearing capacity of the pile?

Thank you.

there are many different ways of doing it, the old traditional way was just a lumped factor of safety of 3 on your combined shaft and end bearing capacity.

but read any text book on geotechnical or foundation engineering. 30 seconds of google and you would have got your answer
