I have encountered what I think is a problem that has been encountered many times before, which is WHEN and IF it is necessary to go the extra mile and get the extra wall thickness offered by API 600/602 as opposed to B16.34. I can of course understand the corrosion aspect of carbon steel, but even here I would appreciate if anyone could share additional insight.
My primary question is WHEN and IF it is every necessary to go with the API 600/602 wall thickness for 316SS Valves. My best guess is that at higher pressures (300# to 600# systems) it can be a good idea to have the additional thickness, but this is only an observation I have made after surveying vendor literature.
Please share your thoughts.
