In the process of researching methods, systems techniques in controlling temperature (70 to 90 degree F)phenolic resin. Resin is pump through a 1.5 inch pipe and into an application pan. Intent is to control resin temperature a point prior to the application. Some ideas are heat exchangers, wraping resin pipes with electrical heater jackets. Concerns are temperature control and resin should not scale/build up within walls of pipe (during heating).
Any ideas, suggestions, past experience, recommendations.
Any help would be greatly appricated.

In most cases the fluid in the application pan should be well mixed by good circulation and filtered. This is best accomplished by circulating the fluid through another tank close to the application pan where the fluid from the pan can be screened to remove debris. The sceen can be easily inspected and replaced without disturbing the application pan. The tank is often a "bean pot", a jacketed stainless steel vessel used for cooking beens in food processing plants. Circulating temperature controlled water through the jacket will control the phenolic fluid temperature.

This system is very robust and user friendly. All surfaces touched by resin can be cleaned and scrubbed to avoid the inevitable build-up of cured resin. The only drawback is the amount of fluid required to fill the system. This usually is not an issue in production but can be in R&D.
