Our company is having a real big issue with the PDM Works vault hanging. We are running SW2004 and PDM2004 and will be switching to 2005 in April. Things started slowing down after the first of the year and it is starting to affect productivity as of late.
Server setup:
MRP system
File server
PDM
Toolbox (total of about 1 gig of part files)
We were using a common folder on PDM for all of our piece parts and assemblies (which now contains 60k+ parts). The top-level assemblies are placed in a seperate folder. We read in the help files that it is recommended to have folders of 2000-4000 parts so we have started moving parts into smaller subfolders. We are also in the process of trying to get a dedicated server for PDM so hopefully that will help also.
A typical scenario that causes it to hang is when we are checking in a fairly large assembly of 1000-2000 parts. We check in the piece parts & lower assemblies first that need checked in then proceed with the assembly. The assembly will usually cause the vault to hang for several minutes at a time. We have seen it take as long as 45 minutes to chek in assemblies, with a typical time of around 20-30mins. During the hang, this causes it to hang for all users so they are also unable to work from the vault during this time.
We have contacted our Var with little success and are starting to work directly with SW on the issue. Does anyone have any ideas to what we could do to help ease the workflow?
