PDM Revision Question

I have PDM set up to control the revision block on my drawing. I need to add a rev triangle to my drawing. The only chance I get to add the next revision, is during check-in. If I add a rev triangle to the drawing after check-in, my vault version will no longer be the latest. What shall I do? I'm thinking I'll have to make manual edits to the revision block & just let PDM do the rest. Any other ideas?

You can check-in with the same rev and override the file in PDMW.

My solution (for now) is to add the rev triangle as an annotation with a triangle border & no leader. Then check-in as usual.

We don't use rev triangles. I have not seen them used for several years.
Yes, it may be two check-ins. But your files should be checked-in as you make major changes to your work anyway.

I agree with the mass consensus that revision clouds are non-standard... but this is the first time I've heard of not using revision triangles. I don't use them often, but I still see their necessity for more complex drawings & bills of material. Does nobody ever complain about having to search an entire drawing to find & check the latest change?

Tate,

For me, zones work well to identify the location of the change. Rev ID's all over the drawing are reduntant to zones in my current enviroment. I can see how Rev ID's might be necessary on very complex and highly detailed parts, though.

I see...
So you indicate the "zone" in the revision comment then?

The ASME standard title block should have Zone in the Revision Table. We have a different method, but the results are the same.

My boss told me that we did have one vendor recently request revision clouds, and i was like "I'm not going to put cartoons on my drawings." lol This is especially true since our models drive the specifications for the parts in question. However, on the model, we do change the color of the feature being modified.

One problem with using zones is when a view is moved, the zone reference is not automatically updated.

I still use triangles and cartoons clouds when necessary.

Splines for clouds... just curious?

Oh...
I've also used a clip art cloud copy/pasted from Word.

I agree with using zones. Forgot to mention it earlier.
When a drawing has any change, the whole dwg should be checked for errors ... not just the change. Things change on their own sometimes.

You can also insert your revision block prior to check-in. This will prompt you to place your revision triangles on the drawing. When you check in the file to PDMWorks, it will not put on another line of the revision block (PDM will read from file). This will avoid the revision overwrite/double check-in.

Babe...

How does that work when adding subsequent revisions?

Well, this is not working the way I remember now =( I'm sorry. Must have been one of the service pack updates...or a different version I was testing.

Is there a reason why you can't add the revision bubbles prior to check-in? Or are you trying to maintain the revision block link to the revision bubble?

I'll see what I can find in the meantime...I know I've done what you are asking for.

I tend to check parts in & out of the vault quite a bit during the design process. I'd rather have more control of the revision number & I can't seem to agree with the way PDM does it. My biggest gripe is that if I check a drawing in that has alredy been revised & I READ THE REVISION FROM THE FILE... the revision note on my drawng gets erased. The only option is to re-type the note every time I check in a drawing.

Me no likey...
