Hello, I am planning to use an electroformed Ni cavity in a new mold base. The manufacturer advised I can't run PC in the cavity and can only run ABS. The advised the PC would quickly wear and scratch the polish on the cavity.

Would appreciate it if anyone could confirm if this makes sense and advise some reasoning behind it.

Neither material is filled.

Thanks.

PC requires through hardened moulds.

Electro deposited moulds normally have Ni over Cu.

The Cu crushes under injection pressure and heat then the Ni flakes off.

Also PC is very hard, so if any part of the moulding or some strings or drool from the nozzle are left between the mould faces when it is closed the mould will be hobbed unless it it through hardened.

Regards
Pat
