PC setup

Hello I’m hoping that you may be able to help.
I currently use SolidWorks 2004, Pro-e Wildfire and 3dsmax, as the modelling and rendering packages.
I’m looking to buy a new pc; luckily I have £1000 to go on parts CPU and graphics, etc. I cannot decide what CPU and graphics card to buy for the best overall performance and rendering.
My friends have both AMD64 and Pentium 4 with 1G+ memory, running a Sapphire 256MB Radeon X850XT PE VIVO. But I’m not that impressed, could you recommend a setup for me.
