Hello,

Greetings fellow engineers.I am new to this forum.

I am working on fairing separation mechanisms in which i need help selecting explosive bolts. Are there established guidelines for selection and sizing of explosive bolts for fairings?

regards,

Trish

There's sizing the bolt, which I would have thought was a well known process, and sizing the explosive charge, which I imagine is left to the wisdom and cunning of the explosive bolt manufacturer.

I would think that a payload designer handbook that the various launch system providers supply would have things like that. OR the bolt supplier would have guidelines as well.

Hello Greg and Ir,

thank you for your replies.Spacecraft structures arent that simple and explosive bolts are simply different.Need to get to know the considerations in sizing the bolts for fairing separation. Also, the manufacturers rate the loading capability as tensile load capability.does this disregard shear load capability?
