It's cheap and easy apparently https://yle.fi/a/3-10736252 . No mention of the costs of storage or transmission lines.

You can do it in Kazaqkstan Transition towards a 100% RE-based energy system was modelled for five scenarios considering different energy system structures, from a limited power sector consideration to a full energy system for power, heat, transport, industry with desalination sectors. The modelling results show that a 100% RE based system is achievable for the applied case ofKazakhstan even considering all energy sectors’ demand and additional emand for international transport, chemical industry feedstock and desalination, which are typically not included in sustainable energy transition studies utilising high shares of renewables. The feasibility of a100% RE system for the case of Kazakhstan, a country with one of the harshest climate conditions and a highly energy-intensive economy, canexhibit the possibility of such a transition in other regions with similar climates, economic and geographic conditions.

Luckily somebody has a robust plan
  • Presents robustly modeled scenarios to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2050
  • Provides policy-makers with detailed pathways to achieve the Paris Climate Agreement goals
  • Includes recommendations for policy-makers to set out a clear implementation agenda

This is the one I'll try and take seriously.

That's ironic, Kazakhstan's primary export is fossil fuels which will be the source of funding.

See how China is advancing in renewables... and cutting back on coal.
